BERRY CROP SURPLUS
Possible Sale In Australia

The Overseas Trade Division of the Department of Industries and Commerce is investigating the possibility of a market in Australia for a surplus of last year's crop of berry fruits grown in the Waimate district. An excess of about four tons and a half, together with other amounts held on account of private growers, is still in coo] storage awaiting a market The retiring president of the Waimate Berry Fruitgrowers Association (Mr R G. Baildom said today that last year’s crop was the best for several seasons, but. owing to early ripenindg. the bulk had been sent to factories.
In spite of this, the demand from the public had fallen away, and as a result the surplus is now held in cold store at the expense of the Otago Raspberry Marketing Committee.
