2000 Recruits For 1963 if(2 Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 5 A target of 2000 candidates as primary school teachertrainees in 1963 was set today by the Minister of Education 'Mr Tennent) The -ante target was set for 1962 bu’ fell short by 140 Mr Tennent said that fifth and sixth form classes in secondary schools were larger this year Mr Tennent forecast a big improvement in primary school staffing when ths larger number of recruits from tast year and this year entered the ranks Mr Tennent said a number oi special measures had been introduced to stimulate the return to teaching of married women and other former teachers
This year a further 100 men and women with the necessary academic and pertonal qualifications would be selected for a special short course that would qualify then in two years instead of the uaual three The Education Board would conduct recruitment campaigns during the next few months.
