GOLF Leading Players Choose New Zealand Circuit

(FI.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

SYDNEY, May 30. Most of the leading Australian and overseas golfers would concentrate on the New Zealand circuit and ignore Australia this year, P. W. Thomson, four-times British Open champion, said in Sydney today. Thomson had returned from England where he had withdrawn from the Oaks tournament. He said that most leading golfers except those with one sporting goods firm, would be in New Zealand while three major tournaments were being held in New South Wales. Thomson said the golfers would visit New Zealand because more prize-money was being offered. Three touma-

ments worth more than £A7500 would be held there on the same date* as the New South Wales tourneys, the State Open, Wagga Wagga Purse and Wills. Thomson said no-one had consulted the players when the circuit was drawn up, and they could choose where they wanted to go. The only leading players likely to stay in Sydney were G. Player, N. von Nida, W. Dunk and B. Devlin.
