SOLO YACHT VOYAGE
New Record Attempt (NX. Press Assn.— Covyngnt) LONDON, May 24 The world famous avia’or and ocean racer. Francis Chichester. said yesterday he would attempt to break his own solo trans-Atlantic crossing record next month Chi-' Chester, aged 61. won the solo trans-Atlantic yacht race in 1960 with a record crossing of 40 days. His new attempt would be made on June 1 from Plymouth in the re-rigged Gipsy Moth 111. Mr Chichester who emigrated to New Zealand in 1919 was the second man to fly solo from England to Australia in 1929 Two years later he made the first solo flight across the Tasman Sea from east to west in his Gipsy Moth aircraft fitted with floats, and followed this up with the world's first long distance solo seaplane flight from New Zealand to Japan “I hope to cut the Atlantic crossing record, which I set two years ago, by 10 hours.” Mr Chichester told the Australian Associated Press today
