Little River Woman’s Wish Comes True
The ability of Mrs L. E. Willan, of Puaha, near Little River, to remember that Smith was the name of the Englishman whom the Indian princess, Pocohontas, rescued and that the State where this happened was Virginia is one of the main reasons why she and her husband are leaving Harewood tomorrow evening by air on the first stage of a two-month overseas trip. Last October Mrs Willan took part in a radio quiz competition for which the prize was free return air travel to London with liberal spending money while the winners were away.
When she applied to take part in the contest, Mrs Willan had to say what she would like to do if she won the prize. She said that she would like to visit England and Scotland to see the famous Ayrshire herds there, and in the next two months that wish Will come true. On her 34-acre property at Puaha, about four miles from Little River, Mrs Willan has a small Ayrshire stud comprising 12 cows and a bull with two heifers coming on. At the last Royal Show at Christchurch, she exhibited the champion bull and also his son, Which was the reserve title winner. The champion had three times previously been champion at Christchurch shows. Mr and Mrs Willan will stay in Sydney on Friday night before flying on to
Singapore, where they will spend two and a half days. Jn Britain they will spend most of the time visiting Ayrshire studs in both England and Scotland and during their stay they will also attend the Royal Show at Newcastle-on-Tyne and the Royal Highland Show, which will be held in Edinburgh. Mrs Willan Is also a lover of horses and during her stay in Britain she will watch for a good horse. She is hoping to be able to visit a top Arab stud. During the last week that she and her husband are in Britain they will be able to go to the Olympia horse show at the White City.
