SEARCH FOR ESCAPER
Wilder May Be Near Taupo (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. May 23. The escaped prisoner, George Wilder, aged 24, is believed to be hiding in bush and scrub in the OmoriPukawa area on the western side of Lake Taupo. A car stolen from Midhirst was found abandoned at Omori on Tuesday, and today it was found that four baches at Omori and one at Pukawa Bay had been broken into. Wilder at one time lived in the Tokaanu area and is believed to know the district. There is a large area of bush and scrub in which he could take shelter. As the baches are unoccupied it is not known how much food he may have taken.
Tokaanu police and some from other parts of the Hamilton police district, have been searching the area.
