QUALITY OF BIRD SEED

Statement By Association An allegation that importers have been adding offal to bird seed in an attempt to bolster up the quantity has caused concern to the Horiicultural Seedsmen’s Association of New Zealand, says its president, Mr F. E. Cooper, in a letter to the editor of “The Press.” The allegation was made by Mr F. B. Garlick, a pastpresident of the association, in a Press Association message from Wellington, printed in “The Press” on May 4. "My association has asked Mr Garlick to give specific details to enable us to check whether the allegation was correct," says Mr Cooper. “These Mr Garlick was not prepared to give, but he indicated that the report of his statement omitted certain parts in which he said that he was quite certain that the main importers and packers were most discriminating in the content of their birdseed mixtures. “We assure bird fanciers, and the public generally, that the members of our association are doing all they possibly can to ensure that only good-quality seed is used, and that it is fairly distributed,” Mr Cooper says.
