RICCARTON TRIP
B. L Hillis’s Plans “The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, May 22.
Even if unsuccessful in his efforts to make Big Talk ready for the trip, the Takanini trainer, B. L. Hillis, will very likely go south for the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton in August. He has been invited to take the mount again on Dusky Prince, with which he won the race in 1960 and 1961. Hillis had intended, after their good form the other week, to take Big Talk and Bookful to the winter meetings at Hastings. Trentham and Riccarton, with the Grand National Steeplechase as Big Talk’s main assignment. A stabelmate. Lochwood, was also to have gone. However, Big Talk has bowed a tendon and Bookful has strained a suspensory ligament. Bookfu) is sore but Hillis said today he was still hopeful Big Talk might recover in time to be ready for a run in the National. In that case, another rider
would have to be found for Dusky Prince. The week before last, Big Talk won the Vercoe steeplechase at Te Rapa and Bookful was successful over hurdles at Gisborne. AH going well, Big Talk was to have run in the Taupo Jumpers’ Flat at Rotorua this week-end and in the McGregor Grant Steeplechase at Ellerslie on June 9.
