DANGERS IN AFRICA
Communism Or Islam (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, May 21. Africa is in danger of being swallowed up by either atheistic communism or Islam, according to the Archbishop of Cape Town, the Most Rev. Joost de Blank In a sermon yesterday at New York's St. Thomas Protestant Episcopal Church, he said: “The sleeping giant of the nineteenth century is now fully awake and is being Courted by every great Power. . . . There is now a struggle for the soul of Africa. “The continent is in danger of b-'ing swallowed up by either atheistic communism or Islam.” He said Moslems could point to the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa, which stood for enforced segregation, and say that Christianity was "the religion of the white people.” Apartheid, he said, created “a mutual exclusiveness” in which the young negro “looks to a future with' no place for whites.” The Archbishop will end a three-week United States tour on May 28 and return home after spending three weeks in England.
