Four Australians Qualify (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, May 22. A. Johnston, the Canadian professional who won the Hot Springs open tournament last Sunday, failed to qualify for the United States open championship in coast-to-coast eleminations yesterday. His 36-hole« total of 147 was two strokes over the qualifying mark. Four Australians survived. B Devlin with 141. B. Crampton 142. W. Dunk 143 and F. Phillips 144. At stake tn yesterday’s competitions at 49 sites were 396 places In the last stage of the two-part open qualifications—the sectionals are scheduled for June 4 and 5. After these are completed, the record entry list of 2438 will have been reduced to 132 starters.
