Skeltons Have Wide Lead
The Wingatui jockey, R. J. Skelton, seems certain to win the jockeys' premiershop this season, with the biggest total for several years. Skelton, with a week more than two months of the season still to go, has 77 wins and a lead of 20 over his brother, W. D. Skelton.
R J. Skelton has already won the premiership twice, in 195556 and 1959-63, and his brother has taken it in the other four of the last six years. " This season the next best behind them is the former top apprentice. L K. Tinsley, with 46 wins. Although he has been
out of his time since early in February. Tinsley could still go down in the record books as this season's leading apprentice —he had 35 wins before completing his time—and the next best apprentice behind him. L. N. McCutcheon, has only 26 so far. Another apprentice well up on the list is a third Skelton. M. J. Skelton, who is attached io the Riccarton stable of J A Cox. He’ has had 23 wins. On the jockeys' list, two previous winners are well up this year. G. F. Hughes, who came out best in 1950-51 and. 1954-55, is fourth with 33 wins, and N. B. Holland (1951-52) is twelfth with 25, The riders of 20 or more winners are : R. J. Skelton, 77; W. D. Skelton. 57; L. K. Tinslev, 46; G. F Hughes. 33; C. A. Bowry, 32; D J. Wyatt. 30; G. R. Visit To U.S. Base.—Leading personalities from the cast of "My Fair Lady” will today visit the United States Navy Antarctic advance beadquarters at Harewood. While at the base they will be shown a film about the exploration of the southern continent.
