BASKETBALL St. Nicholas Narrowly Beats West Old Girls
Third-round games in the Canterbury Basketball Aasocia'on s senior competition were played at South Hagley Park on Saturday in ideal conditions, and of the three senior fixtures, •wo produced basketball of a good standard. Sacred Heart B gained a meritorious victory over Technical Kakatai beat a weakened Teachers’ College side, though its method of winning woulp seem to fall far short of its best form. The competition leader, St. Nicholas, won narrowly from West Old Girls Sacred Heart A had the bye. Results:— Sacred Heart B 32. Technical 29. Kakatai 34, Teachers’ College 25. St. Nicholas 26. West A 24. Sacred Heart B v. Technical From the outset Technical encountered spirited opposition and the Sacred Heart defence. D Evans and D. Green, intercepted well to break up Technical’s moves to its forwards Combining smoothly, the Sacred Heart forwards. J. Peckham and P. Boniafacio. eluded Technical’s defence with surprising ease, and shot accurately to give their side an early tw o-goal lead Technical s skilful centre. P. Edmonds' well-judged intercept'ons gained scoring chances for her side. Technical’s lack of positional play was in marked to that of its less experienced opponents. whose strict adherence to set moves frequently pierced holes in Technical’s defences and moved spectators to applaud.
