TROTTING Bonnieburn Surprises In Washdyke First Leg

Bonnieburn, a winner on the course in January, caused a major surprise when he beat the firm favourite, Adioway, in the President’s Handicap at Washdyke on Saturday. The President’s Handicap was the first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Timaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting Bonnieburn improved wide out after passing the seven furlongs and he took the lead a furlong and a half later. From then on he was not pressed and he won by a length from Adioway, with Stormlight and Parados next.

1 Stormlight finished gamely j for third a length and a half f behind Adioway. with a similar distance to Parados Storm 5 Water, which was well back for the first mile, did well to 5 finish fifth, ahead of Throw--5 away, Robyn. Leslie Grattan ? and Silent Hall, with Estimation next. Second Leg ’ Flying Ailsa. Quilla Dillon. Smog. Great Credit, which was also cheeked. Seafield Lad. Lucky Helen and Vivacis lost ground at the start of ' the May Handicap, the second leg of the double. ' Anama took the lead from Money musk at the end of ’ six furlongs, but the pace i did not appear to quicken J much Great Credit after ; being towards the tail of the , field, improved sharply before the half mile and he was 1 third on the outside of Anama , and just behind Jack Attack ‘ and My Share a furlong later ’ Jack Attack and My Share ■ led Great Credit into the straight. with Ice Fall. Arama. Money Musk and ' Smokey Hall handiest of the ’ others. Great Credit had control at the furldng and he sped away from his rivals to win by seven lengths. Smokey Hall battled on to . take second place by half a ; length from Moneymusk. ’ with half a length to Jack ' Attack and necks to Ice Fall ; and My Share, which were clear of Worthy River and ' Anama. Bonnieburn took the lead from Stormlight with five furlongs and a half left, Adioway meeting trouble and tangling shortly before this Bonnieburn raced to the straight ahead of Storm Water, with Adioway further out. ahead of Parados. Estimation. Stormlight and Leslie Grattan. Bonnieburn did not have to be driven out to win by a length from Adioway, which was fad- from disgraced. As well as tangling twice, he covered a lot of extra ground over the final mile.
