Win For Under 20 Team An under-20 team beat the Canterbury under-18 side, 4-0 In a soccer curtain-raiser to the senior representative trial at English Park yesterday. Using their better physique and experience to advantage, the under-20 team pierced its opponent’s defence almost at will. However, though three goals were conceded by Samson his performance 'was an outstanding one He withstood acutely angled headers from Clements, powerful drives from Torkington and snatched the ball from the toes of Muirson and Watson. McKenzie. at centre-half for the under-18 side, was the best of the halfline while Smith was always up with the play and attempting to score. Apart from Clements, who played well at centre-forward, the Inside right, Torkington was the most prominent of the under-20 side. Riverina Wins In Poverty Bay (N.Z Press Association) GISBORNE. May 20. Riverina won the Poverty Bay series of Chatham Cup soccer matches on Saturday on the toss of a coin after a 120minute contest, including 30 minutes’ extra time, which left Riverina and Eastern Union, the favourite with the score at 3-3. Eastern Union dominated the first spell, leading 3-1. But Riverina evened the scores with 20 minutes to go. At full time the teams were still level and after 30 minutes of extra time in which there were no penalties or corner kicks the scores were unchanged. T. Pugh missed with a shot on an Eastern Union penalty. The Riverina captain. L. Benge, settled the issue by calling correctly on the toss. Riverina will represent Poverty Bay against Bav of Plenty. For Riverina R. Lightfoot. J. Tilley and R. Mulrooney scored and for Eastern Union I. Gillies (2) and T. Pugh goaled
