AERO CLUB’S CONTEST
Bombing And Landing Events Fourteen pilots of the Ashburton branch of the Canterbury Aero Club took part in the bombing and landing competition held at the Ashburton airfield on Saturday About 80 spectators watched the contests. Pilots had to drop a “bomb” from Piper Super Cub aircraft, cruising at 105 miles an hour and at a height of 200 feet. The “bomb.” which was a 10inch length of fireman’s hose filled with shingle, had to be dropped on a target on the airfield. When the pilots had finished their two bombing runs, they had to land their plane as close as possible to the target for the landing competition. Results were:— Bombing —D. W. T Wilson 1. P. Hood 2.
