Flooded River Caused Delay Four Christchurch trampers who were overdue in the Mount White area in the Southern Alps were discovered by a search party late yesterday afternoon. They are Richard Alan Williman. aged 20. a schoolteacher, the leader of the party; Richard Graham Tweedy, aged 17, a student, of 36 Russley road. Upper Riccarton; Clive Raymond Geddes, aged 17, a student, of 142 New Brighton road; and Christopher Charles Pollock, aged 17, a student, of 470 Moorhouse avenue.
They were on a four-day tramping, trip and were due at Aickens, near the junction of the Otira and Taramakau rivers, on Friday. Heavy rain in the Alps caused the rivers to rise and the party was unable to cross.
The party spent Friday and Saturday on the other side of the river waiting for it to go down. They had enough food to'last until Saturday. They had just started to cross the river yesterday when they were met by a search party of four men on horseback. The men were Alan Jackson and his son. Colin, and Hepburn and Tom Jackson, all of whom are farmers in the area
The youths were cold, tired and hungry, but were none the worse for their ordeal, according to the police at Kumara.
