PROBLEMS OF YOUTH
W.D.F.F. Urged To Help The Dominion president of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers (Mrs T. M. Watson) dealt with the problems of youth and what the division could do to help maladjusted young people to meet the difficult conditions of life today when she addressed the annual meeting of the Canterbury North Provincial Executive. The W.D.F.F. could help by giving its support to such good influences as the Outward Bound Schools, she said. Mrs Watson spoke also of the work of Vikaili Borovou. a Fijian girl, who received training in housecraft at the Stratheona Training School under the sponsorship of the W.D.F.F. last year. This girl is now teaching in Fiji. Under what Mrs Watson described as sometimes difficult conditions she was trying to pass on to other girls the knowledge gained in New Zealand.
“It is hoped,” said Mrs Watson, “that early next year it will be possible to bring an older woman to New Zealand to study welfare work here.” Members of the W.D.F.F. bad an important part to play in the community, said Mrs Watson, who mentioned some of the various activities the W.D.FF could assist, including the Civil Defence Organisation.
