NEW TRIAL ORDERED
25 Charges Of
Theft (NZ. Press Association) PALMERSTON N., May 15. A new trial to hear 25 charges of theft preferred against Naomi Patricia Tietjens, aged 30, housewife, was ordered by the Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough) in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North tonight when the jury did not reach a verdict after a retirement of four hours and 20 minutes. Tietjens. the mother of two children, was alleged to have stolen £1127 from an 87-year-old man, William Henry Broderick, in whose house she and her family had been living. The charges related to amounts ranging from £l5 to £165 from the period, June 28, 1960, until January 24 this year. The jury was discharged and Tietjens was remanded on bail to appear at the next sessions of the Supreme Court at Palmprston North. Mr J. A. Ongley appeared for the Crown, and Mr T. A. de Cleene appeared for Tietjens.
