Unemployment In Australia
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, May 15. Registered unemployment in Australia fell by 2546 to 98,547 last month because of a sustained demand for labour, particularly in the motor-vehicle industry. But in spite of this fall, the number of persons receiving unemployment benefits—unemployed who have been without work for at least eight days—increased sharply by 3266 to 49,136. The number of people registered with the Commonwealth Employment Service as jobless has now fallen by 32.5H9 since reaching its peak of 131,406 at the end of January.
