The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) will address the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at dinner in Christchurch on May 22. His subject will be “Long-term economic planning in New Zealand—prospects and problems."
Mr A. Linton, chairman of the Dairy Board, Mr R. F. L. Onion, a member, and Mr A. H. Ward, general manager (production and administration), have left for Britain to discuss matters concerning long-term marketing policy in Britain and Europe.—(P.A.) Mr T. McCristell, of Balclutha, has been appointed chairman of the National Hydatids Council. He replaces Dr. I. J. Cunningham, who resigned recently after his appointment as dean of the veterinary college to be established at Massey College.—(P.A.)
Mr L. Franklin, manager of Christchurch Wools. Ltd., Templeton, was elected chairman of the South Island Wool Association at the conference [yesterday. ! The Rev. P. R. Thomas, i Dornin ion secretary of the I British and Foreign Bible I Society, is in Christchurch for [ the celebrations of the society's centennial in Canterbury. He will give the lunchhour address in the Christchurch Cathedral on Tuesday. Mr H. F Wallis retired yesterday from the Christchurch office of Dalgety and New Zealand Loan Company, after 45 years’ service. He started ■with Dalgety and Company in |1917 in Hamilton, and from i there became branch manager at Blenheim. He was [presented with a set of (crystal glasses and a silver i tray by the Christchurch (branch manager, Mr B. de C. (Thomson, on behalf of the staff.
