Mount John May Be Best (N2. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 11. Mount John, in South Canterbury, might be the best Bite in New Zeeland tor a large-scale observatory, Mr F. M. Bateson, a research associate of Pennsylvania University, said in Auckland yesterday.

He is touring the country, under a grant from the United States National Science Foundation, inspecting likely sites. Mount John was a little more clear from cloud and fog than other sites, he said Other sites being tested are the Black Birch Range (Marlborough). Mount Melita (Nebon), and two in Central Otago.
