POLICE CAR SIRENS
Motor Union’s Concern
The non-use of sirens on police cars is still a cause of concern to the council of the South Island Motor Union.
At a meeting of the union’s council yesterday it was decided to write to the Commissioner of Police (Mr C L. Spencer) asking him to advise what progress had been made in tests carried out to find the most suitable sirens for police cars. Mr C. H. Harvey (Southland) said that the most serious aspect of the non-use of sirens was that some police cars might be exceeding speed limits without giving a warning to other motorists.
The council had written to the Commissioner in February saying it did not approve of his decision to stop the use of sirens on police cars
