N.Z.-MADE CAR PARTS
Request For Tests
The industrial development department of the University of Canterbury will be asked to test various makes of car heaters so a report can be sent to the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) on the standard of heaters manufactured in New Zealand.
This was decided by the council meeting of the South Island Motor Union yesterday after Mr T. E. V. Turpin had given the council examples of the standard of New Zealand-made car components.
The council decided not to approach the Minisier first because it appeared to be his department’s policy to discourage the importation of overeeas articles to assist the sale of New Zealand goods. Mr G. W. Ferens (Otago) said that if the council could give the Minister factual evidence of the poor standard of New Zealand manufactured goods something might eventuate.
