FRIENDLY ATTITUDE
Astronaut’s View On U.S.
(NX Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK. May 11. The Soviet cosmonaut. Major Gherman Titov, said last night that hte major impression of the United States was “the friendly attitude of American people.”
In his last scheduled public appearance before flying home later today, Major Titov said he could have landed his orbiting space craft “in any place on earth.” When he tells his fellow cosmonauts of his warm reception in the United States, he joked, “maybe they will want to land here.”
Major Titov addressed a rally of about 2500 persons, sponsored by the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship, the Associated Press reported.
Speaking through an interpreter. he said the Russians had already chosen the cosmonaut for the third Soviet venture in space and that he had briefed the candidate on his flight. As he has previously since arriving on April 28, Major Titov called for joint United States-Soviet space ventures. "The time will come when Soviet and American cosmonauts and astronauts will fly to Venus, to Mars, to other planets as friends and partners in this daring venture for the good of mankind.” He warned, however, that such a joint venture depended on the relaxation of international tensions. Major Titov was accompanied by his wife. Tamara.

Major Gagarin arrived in Vienna yesterday for a six-day visit. He said he was unable to specify whether the next spaceship would be manned by one or more cosmonauts.
