Board Sees No Need To Apologise

(New Zealand Pr«M Auociatton) AUCKLAND, May 9. The Auckland Education Board feels that it owes no apology to the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) for either recent actions or the statements made—“in quite Parliamentary language”—at recent board meetings.

The chairman ot the board (Mr H. Mawson) made this statement after the Minister had expressed disappointment at the action of the board in not meeting him this morning in tiie Ministerial rooms at the Auckland Chief Post Office.

Mr Tennent waited in the rooms most of the morning for the board to come to see him. But the board did not come.

The board took the view that any meeting must be tn its own rooms. Mr Tennent said he would see members in their boardroom if they first apologised for a “personal attack" made recently on him by members, “Tlie board.” said Mr Mawson, “is happy to state that since making public its concern of the needs of education In this district, several of its major requirements

have received the approval of the Government. For this progress the board has already expressed its gratitude and appreciation to ths Minister. “The Minister knew before he left Wellington that the conditions he had laid down

for meeting the board were not acceptable.”
