PRINCE MAHAL
Purchase For West Coast The services of the Eng-lish-bred stallion, PrinceMahal. will be available to West Coast breeders next season. He was purchased recently by Mr P. K. Ryder and is due to arrive at Mr Ryder’s Inchbonnie Stud in the next week or two. Prince Mahal is a 10-year-old son of His Eminence II and Irish Eyes. His sire, which raced with distinction in France, was a son of Fastnet (by Phalaris), which was also a champion racehorse and a lea-ding sire. Although English-bred. Prince Mahal was foaled in the Dominion. He was born about a month after his dam was imported at a record high price for a brood mare by Mr L. A. Alexander, of the Wynthorpe Stud, Taranaki.
Irish Eyes was by Blue Peter out of Sun Princess, a daughter of Solario and Mumtaz Begum, the dam of Nizami, a leading New Zealand sire some years ago. Mumtaz Begum was by Blenheim from Mumtaz Mahal, reputed to be the fastest filly ever raced. Irish Eyes is a half-sister to Royal Charger, which stood at the stud in the United States at the world’s highest fee and which is the sire of Knight’s Romance. Copenhagen II and Pride of Kildare, which have all been successful sires in New Zealand.
During a short race career in New Zealand, Prince Mahal won four races and was pieced 10 times. His oldest progeny are finals.
