BURSARIES AT SCHOOLS
Protest By Mr M. A. Bull Mr M. A. Bull, rector of the Timaru Boys’. High School, has protested to the Director of Education (Mr A. E. Campbell) against the clause in the new bursary regulations which restricts the award of university fees and allowances bursaries among senior school pupils. His letter, which he has sent to other post-primary schools seeking support says the new rule is unfair to pupils tvho had already taken certain qualifications or embarked on these courses and could be restrictive on both advanced and slower pupils in future. He asks that this clause be repealed retrospectively. The Aranui High School’s board of governors agreed to support the protest. “The main trouble is that these regulations were brought in without anyone affected being consulted.” said the chairman (Mr G. A. Shouksmith). “They were brought in without even notice,” said Mr R. D. Neale.
