OBJECTIVES OF ASSOCIATION
The New Zealand Licensed Motor Vehicle Dealers’ Association was formed in February, 1961, by a group of Christchurch motor dealers who saw the need for such an organisation to protect the interests of the public and dealer alike. From that date the association has progressed, until today the membership of the Canterbury branch is nearly 60 active motor dealers. Another branch operates in Auckland, with more than 100 members. It is expected that other branches will be formed in all the main centres and major provincial towns. The association's aim is to improve the status of motor dealing and in general to increase the public’s confidence in dealers. When a dealer applies for membership of the association, his application has to be approved by an 11-man executive committee and on joining the association he agrees to set the high standard on which the association,, insipta. The association is separate from the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association and caters only for the dealer handling used vehicles, but it does co-operate .wholeheartedly with the ' other association on all matters affecting the sales of used vehicles.
The association watehes , closely the activties of those who contravene the Motor : Vehicle Dealers Act, 1959. It i assists the ’ authorities In i any matter concerning the ■ sale of motor vehicles.
