Coppen, the present holder of the provincial junior title, beat the experienced Eagles players, D. V. Fisher and Mrs J- Shadbolt. Two others making their first appearances in the A grade, R. J. Scott (Avonside) and J. L. Torode (Linwood), did wail to defeat Canterbury ranked players. Scott hit too hard for R. B McCallum (Selwyn). « n<i Torode's intelligent use at attack and drop-shots proved too much for M. A Cox (Walsblee Red) In a close match. N. B. Radford and K. T. tteveneon were in good forin for Wallabies Red. and this looks the team moot likely to steallenge Selwyn for the title thia season.
