BACH OWNER’S PROBLEMS
Leaking Roof, No Permit
What began as an attempt by a Brooklands bach owner to stop the roof leaking ended in trouble with the Waimairi County Council over lack of a . building permit, members of the council heard with some amusement last evening.
The bach owner had continued with other alterations to his bach, and was served with a stop-work notice for having no permit, the council learnt. There was a recommendation before the council that the bach owner be prosecuted. “I statted- by trying to stop the roof leading by increasing the pitch, and this’ led to the idea of enlarging the kitchenette, and constructing the bathroom out to the south wall,’’ said, a letter from the bach owner, read to the meeting. , "At no time did I think a permit was necessary, as I was a long way from the city (laughter) and not working oh a house property,” Cr. C. L Austin moved, and Cr. H. J. Reynolds seconded, that the man be not prosecuted, but that the stopwork notice remain in force until a building permit had been obtained. The motion was carried.
