EXPERIMENT WORKED

Followed Mate To Hospital IN.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. April 18. Two New Plymouth metal workers followed each other to the New Plymouth hospital at an interval of 15 minutes this morning after coming off second best in a tussle with an Bft metal guillotine. One of the men, Mr A. W Fiddis, aged 47, of Budleigh street, injured the tops of three fingers, one so badly that it may have to be amputated. The other, Mr A. H. Gregory, aged 50. of Puni street badly cut the top of one finger, necessitating three stitches.

Mr Fiddis was feeding metal sheets into a guillotine in a plumbers’ workshop. The metal seemed to pull and Mr Fiddis’s fingers came in contact with the blade and were cut. He was taken to hospital and admitted.

Mr Gregory, who has 35 years’ experience in metal working, then experimented in an attempt to find out how the accident happened. Again the metal pulled and Mr Gregory followed Mr Fiddis to hospital.
