“LOOK WHO’S HERE”

Riccarton H.S. Production “Look Who’s Here,” a three-act musical comedy, presenting the ups and downs of life at Gainsborough Hal', was given its first performance last evening by pupils of the Riccarton High School. The school hall was full; and members of the audience, who at times saw the meaning of allusions that were lost upon the outsider, were always appreciative. The cast is large, and to develop the abilities of so many young performers is no small achievement The producer. Anthony Peek, and all those associated with him are to be praised for the work they have done. No doubt a first public performance is a serious matter nevertheless it is hoped that the cast will relax now that tthe opening night has been so successful. The chorus work, in particular would be much brighter if tnose taking part did not se?m so tense. There are some pleasant singing voices in this school. Jennifer Cox being the most noticeable performer. Robin McSporran was also confident in his comic numcers.

Glennis Paine was probably the most versatile player. Although she missed a cue on one occasion, her sense of comedy and air ot assurance added flavour to the whole performance. David Flint and Malvin Griebel both put enthusiasm into their roles, and Murray Nicol’s bright satire on school caretakers was greatly enjoyed. Raywill Laine looked the part as the typical sports mistress, and other staff members at Gainsborough Hall were acted by Marlene Taylor, Diana Smaill and Barbara Coppard. “Look Who’s Here” is obviously a combined effort of the most valuable kind, and mention must be made of the construction of the sets and of the work of the school orchestra. / -C.E.S.
