Resumption Moves

The Dutch Ambassador, Dr J. H. van Roijen. arranged to meet the United States Secretary of State (Mr Rusk) today to discuss the resumption of secret talks on the West New Guinea dispute with Indonesia, the Associated Press reported. United States officials continued to be hopeful that the Dutch and Indonesians would send their negotiators back to the conference table to discuss a new plan put forward by Mr Ellsworth Bunker, who was a third party in a first round of talks last month. Dr van Roijen returned on Sunday after about 10 days of consultations at The Hague In The Hague, the Dutch Foreign Ministry last nigh! announced that the Dutch Government had given the United States its views on tite “Bunker plan” for West New Guinea.
The Ministry’s announcement added shat Dr. van Roijen had also given these views to Mr Bunker Mr Bunker’s plan is reported to envisage placing West New Guinea under United Nations supervision for two years while control is gradually transferred to Indonesia, pending a referendum among the Papuans to decide their future. .
