POLICE FIRE ON CROWD
10 Wounded In Allahabad (A’-Z. Preu Assn.—Copyright) NEW DELHI. April 16. Police opened fire on an angry mob in Allahabad yesterday wounding at least 10 people, according to reports reaching New Delhi. The reports said 27 police and officials, including a magistrate, were injured when the mob pelted them with stones and other objects, according to British United Press.
The trouble was believed to have developed when a crowd demanded the body of a person allegedly beaten to death in gaol. The British United Press said the mob was reported to have also set fire to a fire station.
Police opened fire after tear-gas failed to disperse the crowd A dusk-to-dawn curfew was later imposed.
