Manufacturers’ Support
The Canterbury Manufacturers' Association will support any move by the Christchurch City Council to establish a duty-free shop at Christchurch airport. In deciding this last evening. the association’s council also resolved to ask the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation to approach the Government with a view to having the liquor laws altered so that tourists cculd get the service luey were accustomed to overseas
The meeting also decided that the Government should be asked to urge the extension of meal hours in hotels, as a further attraction for tourists.
Tire president of the association (Mr R H. Stewart) said the manufacturers’ federation supported the Government’s drive for more toprists. Any money spent by the Government in tourist promotion should be recovered many times over as well as earning much-needed exchange.
