U.S. NAVY DISPLAY
Kennedy Attends fN.Z. Press Assn.-Copyright) ONSLOW BEACH (North Carolina), April 15. The United States Navy presented a display of air, sea and land power before President Kennedy yesterday. Interceptors and attack bombers hurled bombs and rockets and strafed a target trailing 1500 yards behind the nuclear aircraft carrier Enterprise. To more than 20,000 men assembled on 49 ships, Mr Kennedy broadcast a message expressing his appreciation for the display. He said he would return to Washington with new “confidence and hope.” However, all the guided missiles used in the exerecise failed to hit their targets, Reuter reported. The President came ashore in a helicopter to see 9000 marines storm Onslow Beach in a simulated attack. Fire Alarm.— A fault in one of the fire alarm circuits caused a false alarm to be sounded in Rangiora early last evening. The fault was probably due to moisture causing a short-circuit.
