S.M. SEEKS REPORT
Injured Youth In Court (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 14. Mt A. A. Coates. S.M., today demanded a report from title police on how Joseph Henry, a 17-year-old polisher, got a bad bruise on the left side of his head and a gashed lip while in the cells of the Central police station on Friday night.
Henry, appearing in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of drunkenness, pleaded guilty and was con-, vseted and discharged. Sergeant Q, A Dalrlow said Henry was found drunk in Dominion road. He was taken to the Central police station and spent the night in the cells.
The Magistrate: How did you get that bruise on the side of your head and that lip? Henry: I was knocked about a bit in the cells. The Magistrate: Who by?— Oh. by four policemen. The Magistrate: I am not satisfied with this matter. Sergeant Dal low, will you please report to your superiors that this man appears to have been manhandled and that I want a report on it.
