LUNG CANCER DEATHS
Rise In England, Wales Last Year (N.Z.P A.-Reuter—-Copyright) LONDON, April 14. Lung cancer deaths in England and Wales rose again last year, tlie Registrar-Gen-eral reported today. Provisional figures issued by the Registrar-General showed the death rate among men for lung cancer rose from 856 a million population in 1980 to 871 a million population. Among women the death rate rose from 132 a million population in 1980 to 141 a million population last year.
The British Government was called on in a report today to back a national antismoking drive by restricting tobacco advertising and by warning young people on the health dangers involved in smoking. The call was made by a doctor and an economist in a report sponsored and published by the Advertising Inquiry Council, Lt L. whose president is Lord Fisher of Lambert, formerly Archbishop of Canterbury.
Industrial Deafness. A case of industrial deafness, in an elderly man, has been notified to the Christchurch office of the Health Department. It is the first such notification received by the office for some months.
