SHORTAGE OF BIRDSEED

Pullan. a well-known bird fancier and the owner of an extensive menagerie at Trentham. Mid today.
Commenting on a statement by the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton), on being presented with a budgerigar, that, as a birdowner, he would now be able to test the truth of complaints about the shortage of birdseed. Sn Pullan said that the Minister's becoming a bird owner could have some new bearing on the position. While his own position was not desperate. Mr Pullan said that, unless some form of alleviation in the way of less stringent import controls or a more satisfactory means of distributing the seed were found, great harm would soon be done to bird-breed-ing interests.
