Table Tennis OPENING NIGHT FUNCTION

Film Of World Championships A most interesting film of the 1961 world table tennis championships was shown at the opening night of the Canterbury Table Tennis Association These championships, at Peking were attended by an official New Zealand team of four men and three women. The film devoted considerable length to the finals of the team events and to the finals of the five individual events. Two members of the New Zealand team made brief in the background, but great interest was taken in the styles of the Chinese men players who dominated both team and individual singles matches. The presentation of trophies won in the 1961 winter season's competitions was made as follows: A Grade: Selwyn (T. R. D. Flint. V. N. Brightwell, R. B. McCallum). A Reserve Grade: Wallabies (R. L. Hulston, T. B. Gillard. N. C. O’Brien). B Grade: Avonside (K. J. Vizer, B Riskilley, J. Pierce). C Grade: Centlc (P. Ives. R Consedine, I. Consedine) D Grade: Avonside (A. West, R. Anderson. Miss L. Boyd). E Grade: University (D. Lockwood, N. Lockhart, R. Beattie). F Grade: South Christchurch (C. Liddell. R. Liddell. K. Armstrong). G Grade: Southern Bottling (J. V. Stopforth, R. Swift, L. Farrant).
