LONDON ARTS FESTIVAL
City Choir May Go The Christchurch Harmonic Society’s choir may visit London to take part in the Commonwealth Arts Festival in 1965. The venture was first discussed in 1961 and when the director general of the festival (Mr I. Hunter) visits New Zealand next year the society will hold detailed discussion with him. The secretary of the society (Mr A. W. Mann) said yesterday that recently an approach had been made to Mr Hunter about the possibility of the choir taking part in the festival. Mr Hunter had replied that it would be most appropriate for the choir to visit Britain, but it was too early for the festival organisers to give a clear indication of how the choir could be employed or how many concerts were offering. He added that he hoped to be in New Zealand next year and would then discuss the society’s offer in detail.
Mr Mann said that the society realised the visit was an ambitious undertaking A minimum of 175 to 180 mem. bers would have to go if ’he choir was to be at full strength Also, a considerable amount of finance would have to be found by the member*. ’■
