TASMAN TRIP IN JUNK
New Zealanders’ Plans (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, April 15 Four young New Zealanders plan to sail a Chinese junk down the Queensland coast from Cooktown to Cairns and across to Auckland The junk will arrive in Cairns from Cocktown next week The four, Mr B Clifford his brother Graham, aged 19 Messrs M. Athews aged 25, and R. McKinnon, aged 24. all of Auckland bought the junk in Hong Kong last year. The junk was modified in Hong Kong before leaving for New Zealand in December Since then it has visited Singapore. Portuguese Timor, and Thursday Island. The crew said the craft handled exceptionally well in high seas and they expected to reach Auckland in two months. In New Zealand they would use the vessel as a pleasure craft.
