Army Worm
Army worm has devastated several North Taranaki farms and left cereal crops, including maize, with only the stalks standing. Some succulent pastures have also suffered damage. Better known in some districts as army caterpillar, the pest has ravaged more than two-thirds of a six-acre crop of maize belonging to Mr E J. Hastie, Bedford road. Inglewood. In spite of Mr Hastie’s efforts to feed the crop to h.s milking herd, the caterpillar has eaten the maize more quicklv than he can feed it off.—iP.A.)
