AERO CLUB HAS RECORD YEAR

6826 Flying Hours Logged

March, a record month for flying hours logged by the Canterbury Aero Club, ended a record year as well. Hours for the year were 6826, compared with 5382 last year, and the March record was 747 hours.

The manager of the club (Mr R. F. Short) said that the club, with its 600 members, was a particularly active one.

Mr Short said the club now had 10 aircraft in use The new Piper Tripacer was permanently based at Ashburton with a full-time instructor. This would be used for training, scenic flights, aerial surveying, and spotting. Three of the aircraft were licensed in the commercial division and two of the club’s six permanent full-time professional pilots specialised in commercial work.
