Good Standard Set In Woolston Poultry Show
Pigeons from Kyeburn (Central Otago), and poultry from Ashburton, Christchurch, and Rangiora were among the 439 entries in 192 classes of the Woolston Poultry Club's sixteenth annual two-day show, which opened yesterday in the Christchurch Fanciers' Hall.
Entries were on a par with last year, with poultry, egg and pigeon classes showing slight increases, although entries in the bantam section dropped slightly. The judge of the heavv poultry breeds. Mr B. E. Graham, said that this section showed a reasonably good standard. The best bird was an Australorp cockerel, shown by Mr C. L. Pritchard, of Ashburton. The Langshans had shown a marked improvement. He said lice disqualified about 20 per cent, of the birds in the section. The general standard of the egg entries was considered to be very very high by the judge. Mr H. H. Watson, of the Agriculture Department. Of the 14 entries, five were white and nine were tinted, and the yolk of both types was very satisfactory. Results were:— Championships
