OFFICIAL REPORT

The official report issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers - Association, in conjunction with the Woolbuyers' Association and the Wool Commission of New Zealand, says:— "The first section of the fifth and final wool sale of the 196162 season was held today when three catalogues totalling 19.950 bales were submitted. A further 20.900 bales will be offered on Monday. "The selection was a very varied one drawn from Canterbury, Blenheim. Nelson and the West Coast, and Chatham Islands. Catalogues contained very few really bright and attractive lots but there was a big percentage of medium to good wools and, taken as a whole, the offering compared favourably with the average for this sale. "A feature of the sale was the unusually large quantity of second-shear and lambs' wool, which opened up fairly well, with some improvement noticeable in the get-up of the lamb wool, though some of the lines still showed a lack of care “The offering as a whole was not unduly heavy in condition for this time of year, and yolk stain was less apparent than usual. Much of the offering, however, was carrying a certain amount of dust as a result of the dry conditions in the spring and summer. “There was a full bench of buyers and the sale opened very firmly with keen and general competition. Continental buyers were again the principal operators, with Bradford and America on the market for suitable wools

"As compared with the recent Wellington sale all classes of crossbred can be quoted as very firm, Merinos and halfbreds sold in sellers’ favour from the last fine wool sale in Timaru, while prices generally were firm and unchanged. There was almost a complete clearance at auction.

The following is the range of prices:—
