Built On A Swedish Lake
The single screw motor vessel, the Port Denison (seen above), has arrived in Lyttelton to serve the current wool sale. She will load at Lyttelton and Bluff for the Continent and the United _Kiig dc,n T by Captain R. W. Jones, of Croesyceiliog, South Wales, who has his Welsh-born wife and 10-year-old daughter aboard with
him, the Port Denison is under a five-year charter to the Port Line. She was built on a lake near Stockholm, linked to the sea by a canal, for Norwegian owners. Her original name was Fair Lady, later changed to Vimeira. Capable of 151'2 knots, the Port Denison, which has a sharply-flared bow, is now owned by the Dornoch Shipping Company. Ltd. She is
fitted with modern navigational equipment, including radar, radio-telephone and gyro, and is comfortably appointed. A dry cargo vessel with five holds, she has modern cargo gear powered by electric winches. The 6227-ton Port Denison, which has already loaded 1500 tons of lead at Port Pirie, is expected to leave for Bluff early next month.
