Mr Morrison Elected
(A.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. Mr T. C. Morrison was elected chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union Council today. He succeeds Mr C. S. Hogg, who has retired. Mr Morrison has had a distinguished career as a player and selector. He first represented New Zealand in 1938 when representing South Canterbury and then he retired and turned to selecting. He was a national selector from 1950 to 1956 when he joined the council. subsequently becoming deputy-chairman. Resignation.— Mr G. G. Gibbons (Wellington) has resigned as a North Island selector for personal reasons. His resignation was accepted by the council, which expressed appreciation of Mr Gibbons’s services. Nominations for a replacement for Mr Gibbons are to be called for within the next fortnight. The appointment will then be made by the council by postal ballot. Because of the resignation, the teams for the North Island trial match at Palmerston North on May 3 will now be chosen by the remaining two selectors. Messrs R. G. Bush and J- L Finlay. The North Island-South Island match will be played at Christchurch on July 28. Dates Changed.— Because of a riasn of dates, the opening two matches of the Australian team’s tour of New Zealand this season have been switched. Subject, to approval by the Australian Rugby Union, the tourists will now open their tour against Poverty Bay at Gisborne and then play Counties at Pukeko'ne. Televised Matches. The annual general meeting of the union approved today that the council proceed with negotiations with the Broadcasting Corporation and television on Rugby.
The council has instructed the executive to continue these discussions on its behalf.
