RESTORATION IN SPAIN

Reported Plans For Prince

General Franco will announce plans this year to make Prince Juan Carlos, aged 24. King of Spain in 10 years’ time, according to reliable reports in Madrid quoted by the British United Press.

They will begin within the next month by an official acknowledgement of the Prince as heir to the throne. This will be done before his marriage to Princess Sophie of Greece on May 14, according to the reports. The acknowledgement will take the form of naming Juan Carlos Prince of the Asturias —a title reserved for the Crown Prince.

Later in the year General Franco is expected to promulgate these “fundamental laws.”

His personal rule will continue for five years. That period will be followed by a five-year regency with Franco as Regent.

The Pretender. Don Juan (Juan Carlos's father), will be restored to rule, with a proviso that he abdicate in favour of his son.

The 10-year delay is designed to give General Franco a chance to create a solid economic foundation for the country, according to the reports.
