TROTTING TROTTING STAKES AT ADDINGTON
Spark Gap Picked To Win Today
Spark Gap, the New Zealand record-holder for 12 furlongs, is selected to beat his seven rivals in the New Zealand Trotting stakes at Addington today. This race is expected to be one of the features of the second day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting. Spark Gap is not expected to have things his own way, Snow Globe and Dreaming, both of which have shown winning form, as well as Courtella, looking capable of making a race of it with him.
Spark Gap has shown outstanding form this season for his Christchurch owner, Mr H. W. Alston, for whom he is prepared at Weedons by P C. Williams. The Thunder On colt was an impressive second to Flaming Way over two miles at Methven at his most recent star: and if he is reasonably quick to become properly balanced, should be too good for his opponents
Snow Globe could make Spark Gap work hard for victory She is a brilliant beginner and if, as at Methven where she was clear by almost 50 yards just after the start, she accelerates quickly, she will set the others an almost impossible task. She has recorded 3min 20sec for 12 furlongs and her run at the trials recently suggested she could lower that figure considerably. Dreaming has won twice and been placed in four of her other seven starts. She
looked jaded when third to naming Way and Spark Gap at Methven, but has looked to have freshened up well in her training at Addington this week. She will be a sound place prospect.
Courtella has not won a race, but has recorded several sound placings. She might lack the brilliance of some of her rivals, but she is most reliable, a point which could result in her returning a dividend.
The others have little in the way of form and Grand Charge could be the pick of them. He has not raced, but has shown ability at trials. He is by Light Brigade from Kowbai. so he should be a fine trotter. However, it is unlikely he will be much of a threat to Spark Gap and Snow Globe.
The double will be run on the Williams and President’s Handicaps. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
